I’m Back! And I had a Cookie Exchange

I know i know….i’m really bad at staying on top of things with this blog. I last touched this with my redesign back in Aug…then I had a baby,
a sweet little boy named Ian. With that I was m.i.a. until now. I’d like
to skip the excuses and share the fun I had throwing my 3rd Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange. I tried a few new recipes, that I totally fudged in the end….Recipes are really just guides, everything was
still a total hit.

From the top left to right: 1) My mantel decorated for the occasion
2) Swiped Starbucks decor from 2 seasons ago, made a great doorway decor. 3) Faux Mini Forest, themed Sweets and Birds 3) A holiday bouquet per Fresh Market 4) Table full of goodies 5) Cookies with matching recipe printouts. 6) Plates and napkins that i grabbed from Target and Tjmax 7) Mini Muffaletta Squares on a quick and easy cupcake tray decorated for the occasion ( see below ) 8 ) Garlic Potato Rounds with Pesto and Shaved Asparagus 9) Andes Chocolate Chip Cookies

When planning a going away gathering I found that Wilton, maker
of tons of baking supplies, makes a disposable card board cupcake stand. It’s a life saver! It becomes a customized tray with the addition
of cute ribbon adhered to the rim of each tier. In this case I used
a selection of holiday ribbon to match my theme. Tips: Unlike I did, stray away from glittered ribbon on the top 2 tiers, as they can shed glitter on the tray(s) below. Also, the cardboard is coated with a gloss,
so with light use this thing can last you 1, 2 or 3 uses! Quick and easy!

So I’m not going to lie… as much as I love all things letterpress I had never had the opportunity to use it in my work for the sake of clients budget. It’s usually this most expensive route, but has the most rewarding finished product. So when Sarah Petrosky of New Jersey approached me with her heart set on letterpressed wedding invitations I was thrilled. Here is how they turned out. Let me know what you think.

DIY vs Designer Invitations

What’s your take on invites, DIY or have them done?

They’re can be some pros and cons.

DIY: With DIY you have total control of the out come , which can be good or bad. You can search out all your materials, which also can be good or bad. If you have specific taste it can sometimes be very difficult to find ready-made elements that fit your needs. You’re usually limited to flat printing, unless you find a printer who is willing to do small quantities for something like thermography or letterpress printing. And it is time consuming. Tips: Keep it simple, always account for extras, assemble with friends or bridal party, and allow at least a week of spare time to get everything together.

Using a Designer: If you have no idea what you want, a designer can help narrow it down. A designer should have a vast knowledge of paper, design elements, printing methods and embellishments to help you accomplish the aesthetic you’re looking for. A designer usually has a minimum amount of time for process to be complete. Ultimately using a designer saves you time by doing all the foot work for you. Keep in mind, in the end you still need to address them.

I’ve been racking my brain on how to gain a few opportunities to contribute to my portfolio and get my name out there. I’m a firm believer that the best marketing is still word of mouth and seeing the work for yourself. So I devised a promotion.

If you meet the requirements, I will do your project at the cost materials only. In return the you must agree to allow me to market my services to your guest with a credit to me as designer somewhere within the project, and a link to my site on your event website, if any. This will last only until I can’t handle the workload, so get it while you can.
